The Joint Mentorship Project (JMP) is a collaborative partnership between the Western Cape Primary Science Programme (PSP), the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the Mathematics Education Primary Programme (MEPP) and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED).

The project is aimed at supporting first-time teachers at the start of their teaching career, providing on-site mentorship in schools, skills training workshops and overall teacher support.

The two-year project, which is coordinated by the PSP and researched by UWC staff, focuses on curriculum implementation, classroom management, understanding the culture of the school and managing administrative tasks as well as continuous professional development.

The first cycle of this pilot project was successfully started in June 2011 with seven experienced mentors from the PSP and MEPP staff and currently supports 21 enthusiastic first-time teachers from various Education Districts of greater Cape Town.
